The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has taken stringent action against several food establishments across the state, leading to the suspension of four licenses as of August 23, 2026. Ayub's restaurant in Fort, Mumbai, had its license suspended on August 23, 2026, following an August 22 inspection that revealed severe lapses. These included inadequate temperature control, improper storage of high-risk foods at room temperature, and a lack of segregation between raw and cooked items. The kitchen was found to be unclean, with open drains, stagnant water, and a lack of pest control measures.
In addition to Ayub's, the food business licenses of Sankalp Mahila Audyogik Utpadak Sahakari Sanstha Maryadit in Kurla West, Mumbai, Burhampur Jalebi Centre in Nagpur, and Step In Restaurant in Nagpur were also suspended. These actions followed routine inspections that identified violations of hygiene and food-safety regulations. These suspensions were part of a broader crackdown that also saw the seizure of approximately 60,709.8 kg of stock worth ₹2,24,61,888 across Maharashtra. This includes 4,317 kg of products seized in Pune for operating without a license, and substantial quantities of suspected adulterated or improperly labeled items in Jalgaon and Nagpur.
