Summary
- Per-passenger charges at Mumbai airport may decrease post-Terminal 1 redevelopment.
- Navi Mumbai airport is crucial for IndiGo's domestic and international expansion.
- Airlines and Adani Group are in discussions regarding international flight shifts.

IndiGo's CEO, Willie Walsh, stated that per-passenger aeronautical charges at Mumbai Airport are expected to decrease after the redevelopment of Terminal 1. He explained that increased airport capacity should naturally lead to lower charges for airlines, a factor IndiGo carefully monitors alongside its own costs. The development of the Navi Mumbai airport is considered strategically vital for IndiGo's expansion plans, both domestically and internationally.
Walsh emphasized the necessity for IndiGo to establish a presence at both Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports to support its growth. Currently, there is an ongoing discussion between the Adani Group and various airlines, particularly foreign carriers, concerning the proposed shift of international flights to the Navi Mumbai airport. This move is intended to facilitate the redevelopment of Mumbai's old airport terminal.
Several foreign airlines have requested additional time to comply with the proposed changes, while Air India, Air India Express, IndiGo, and Akasa Air have agreed to relocate a portion of their international flights. IndiGo is also exploring international partnerships, such as codeshare agreements and joint ventures, to facilitate its long-haul expansion, primarily for market access rather than financial investment. The airline currently serves over 300 domestic city pairs with no competition.
