Mumbai Railways Ups AC Local Count to 121
19 Jan
Summary
- 12 new AC local train services launch on January 26, 2026.
- Total AC local services will increase from 109 to 121.
- Existing non-AC services will be converted without increasing total train count.
Beginning January 26, 2026, Mumbai's suburban rail network will see a significant enhancement with the addition of 12 new air-conditioned local train services on the Western Railway line. This increase will raise the total number of AC local trains from 109 to 121, catering to the growing demand for more comfortable travel.
These new AC services are being introduced by converting existing non-AC services, meaning the overall frequency of suburban trains will not change. Western Railway aims to improve commuter experience and better manage passenger flow, particularly during peak travel times and adverse weather conditions.
The expansion includes a balanced distribution of services in both directions. Six new AC services will operate towards Churchgate and six away from it, covering routes from Virar, Goregaon, Borivali, and Bhayandar, offering a mix of fast and slow services.
