Moringa Mania: Every Yard to Get Three Trees!

Nileshwar municipality has declared the moringa tree its official symbol and launched an initiative to become a 'Moringa hub'. The civic body will distribute three moringa saplings free to each household under the 'Three Moringa in Every Yard' campaign. A nursery will be developed to ensure a steady supply of quality planting materials.

The municipality also plans to establish a small-scale industry network focused on value-added moringa products, with support from agricultural research centers. Products like dried leaves, powder, seeds, and roots will be marketed domestically and internationally, capitalizing on the rising global demand for moringa as a superfood.

This project, allocated ₹5 lakh in the 2023-27 annual budget, aims to enhance the health of women and children while creating income opportunities. The strong demand from countries like the US, Germany, and the UK, particularly from nutraceutical and supplement industries, underpins the initiative's economic potential.
