Summary
- Morgan Stanley launched spot Ethereum and Solana ETFs with a 0.14% fee.
- The new ETFs aim to offer competitive pricing, undercutting existing options.
- Funds will stake assets, distributing rewards as monthly cash distributions.

Morgan Stanley has introduced new spot Ethereum and Solana exchange-traded products (ETPs) with a daily fee of 0.14%. These trusts, named Morgan Stanley Ethereum Trust (MSSE) and Morgan Stanley Solana Trust (MSOL), commenced trading on NYSE Arca, each opening with 50,000 shares and around $1 million in seed capital. This pricing strategy positions them as the most cost-effective options in their respective categories, according to industry analysts.
Both ETPs will utilize staking services provided by Figment, Galaxy Blockchain Infrastructure, and Coinbase Canada. The trusts plan to stake a significant portion of their assets, with MSOL targeting up to 100% of its SOL holdings and MSSE aiming for 50% to 80% of its ether. Staking rewards will be distributed to holders as monthly cash distributions, funded by token sales, with a quarterly minimum. Notably, MSSE faces a longer validator activation queue for Ethereum, estimated at 47 days, compared to Solana's two to three-day bonding period.
With approximately 16,000 Morgan Stanley advisers overseeing $9.3 trillion and the recent integration of spot trading through E*TRADE this month, the potential for significant investor flows into these new cryptocurrency products is substantial. Observers will be watching the creation baskets, the staked share of ether, and the first distribution, which is contingent on validators clearing the queue.
