Summary
- Moonshot AI is in talks to raise up to $1 billion in new funding.
- This funding round could value the Chinese AI startup at $18 billion.
- The company recently secured over $700 million at a $10 billion valuation.

Moonshot AI is currently in discussions to raise as much as $1 billion in an expanded funding round. This potential investment would value the Chinese artificial intelligence startup at approximately $18 billion.
This valuation represents a significant increase, more than quadrupling its valuation in just three months. The company previously secured over $700 million earlier this year, which valued it at $10 billion. Towards the end of last year, Moonshot AI was valued at $4.3 billion after a $500 million tranche.
The swift fundraising pace highlights growing investor enthusiasm for Chinese AI developers. Rivals like Zhipu and MiniMax Group Inc. have recently achieved valuations between $30 billion and $40 billion. Moonshot's Kimi chatbot and its K2.5 model have shown strong performance, with monthly sales exceeding the previous year's total revenue after the launch of Kimi Claw.
However, the company faces scrutiny as Chinese AI companies expand globally. Moonshot AI and others have been accused of illicitly distilling results from Anthropic's Claude model to enhance their own products.
