Gasoline prices across Michigan have seen a notable decrease, with the state average dropping 18 cents since the previous week to reach $4.01 per gallon as of Monday. This current price represents a substantial saving of 73 cents compared to the average price recorded last month. However, when compared to the same period in 2025, the current average is 72 cents higher.
Nationally, the average price for gasoline has also declined, standing at $3.85 per gallon, a 14-cent drop over the past week. In Detroit, prices average around $4.08 per gallon. For motorists in Michigan, a full 15-gallon tank now costs approximately $60. Fuel experts note that while prices have fallen in nearly every state, global events, including tensions near the Strait of Hormuz, introduce potential for future oil price increases, though current gasoline prices are not yet at significant risk.
Diesel prices have also moved lower nationwide, with the national average dipping 19 cents to $4.99 per gallon. In Metro Detroit, the average gas price is currently $4.12 per gallon, 13 cents less than last week and 83 cents higher than a year ago. The most expensive averages are found in Metro Detroit and Ann Arbor at $4.12, while Grand Rapids ($3.83) and Traverse City ($3.84) report the least expensive averages.
