JSW MG Motor India is preparing to launch the Hector Hawk in the Indian market on July 16th. This new SUV will be available in two powertrain options: a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and a pure electric (EV) version. Both variants are based on the Wuling Starlight 560 platform, and will carry the 'Hector Hawk' name, aiming to capitalize on the existing brand recognition of the Hector SUV.
The Hector Hawk boasts a boxy, upright design with substantial dimensions, measuring 4,745 mm in length. It is expected to offer five- and seven-seater configurations. The PHEV model will feature a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a 20.5 kWh battery, producing around 197hp. The EV version will come with a 56.7 kWh battery, offering an estimated range of 500 km.
This strategic naming of the Starlight 560 as the 'Hector Hawk' is designed to leverage the popularity of the original Hector, MG's first SUV in India. The company aims for value-centric pricing for the PHEV, mirroring the success of the initial Hector model by offering significant technology and features for the price. This move is expected to bolster sales for the new PHEV and EV models.
