Mexico's Fondo de Fondos is set to receive a substantial 4 billion pesos ($233.2 million) in capital this year. This marks the fund's first significant capital injection in a decade, aimed at bolstering investments in alternative assets. The funds originate from national development banks, including Nacional Financiera and Banco Nacional de Comercio Exterior.
Investment activities are anticipated to commence in the latter half of 2026, following the finalization of investment structures and vehicles. The initiative is designed to support Mexican companies engaged in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, clean energy, and health biotechnology.
Fondo de Fondos, established in 2006, has previously allocated $1.1 billion to strategies including private capital, energy, venture capital, and impact investment. Approximately 60% of its existing investments are within Mexico, with technology representing nearly half of its portfolio.
This government commitment is viewed as a significant catalyst for the private equity sector, encouraging innovation and fostering industry growth. It is expected that Fondo de Fondos' contribution will attract additional private investment, with historically contributing 10% to investment vehicles it joins.
