RAM Shortage Forces Meta Quest Price Hike
16 Apr
Summary
- Meta Quest 3 and 3S prices will increase on April 19.
- Rising RAM costs are blamed on chip shortages and AI demand.
- Refurbished Quest units also see significant price jumps.

Meta is implementing price increases for its Quest virtual reality headsets, with changes taking effect on April 19. The Meta Quest 3 will see a $100 price increase, bringing its cost to $599. Additionally, the Quest 3S will become more expensive, with the 128GB version priced at $350 and the 256GB version at $450. These adjustments stem from escalating RAM prices, largely driven by a scarcity of chips. This chip shortage is exacerbated by the high demand from AI companies securing memory for their data centers.
Beyond new units, the cost of refurbished Quest devices is also rising. Refurbished Quest 3S models will be $50 more, at $320 for 128GB and $410 for 256GB. The refurbished Quest 3 is subject to a substantial $170 price increase, reaching $550. While Meta cites manufacturing costs for new devices, the sharp rise in refurbished prices is noteworthy. In contrast, Meta has indicated that prices for its smart glasses are not expected to change soon.
