Meta Director Sues Over Age Discrimination in Layoffs
24 Mar
Summary
- Director alleges Meta laid off older workers disproportionately.
- He was 54 and had received positive reviews and stock awards.
- Lawsuit seeks $12 million in lost equity and damages.

A former Senior Director of Monetization Analytics at Meta, Nicolas Franchet, has filed a lawsuit accusing the tech company of age discrimination and wrongful termination.
Franchet, who was 54 at the time of his layoff in February 2025, claims that Meta's decision to cut "lowest performers" unfairly targeted older workers. His lawsuit, filed in San Francisco County Superior Court, cites company data suggesting employees aged 40 and older were 1.5 times more likely to be laid off than those under 40.
This legal action highlights a pattern in the tech industry, with previous age discrimination lawsuits against companies like HP and Google settling for millions. Franchet's suit details his consistent strong performance reviews and a significant restricted stock unit award from CEO Mark Zuckerberg in March 2023, which he received shortly before his termination.
Despite receiving an "At or Above Expectations" rating in August 2024 and a note from Zuckerberg recognizing his "meaningful impact," Franchet was later classified as a low performer. He is now seeking compensatory and punitive damages, including an estimated $12 million in lost equity set to vest over the next three years.
