Bladeless Fans Spark Fire Fears: Recall Issued
18 Jun
Summary
- Two reports of fans catching fire, one causing smoke damage.
- Fans sold nationwide at TJMaxx, Marshalls, and Sierra stores.
- Consumers must deface fans to receive a refund.

Merkury Innovations has initiated a recall for its Hot + Cool Heating and Cooling Fans following reports of fires. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that two incidents involved the fans igniting, and one resulted in property damage due to smoke. No injuries have been reported to date.
The affected product is the bladeless fan with model number MI-DHC02, identifiable by a white label at its base or on its packaging. These fans were distributed nationally through retailers such as TJMaxx, Marshalls, and Sierra between October 2024 and October 2025, priced at approximately $30.
Consumers who purchased these fans are instructed to cease use immediately and unplug the devices. To obtain a refund, customers must visit a specific company webpage. The refund process requires consumers to permanently mark the fan with their initials, the current date, and the word "recalled." They must then submit photos of the marked fan and a severed power cord, along with completing a registration form.
Customers will receive further instructions regarding disposal or return of the fan only after their registration is successfully processed via email. Merkury Innovations manufactures other products, including earbuds and light therapy lamps, but these are not part of the current recall.
