Mercedes-Benz India is set to unveil its flagship V-Class on March 3, signaling a strategic re-entry into India's rapidly evolving luxury vehicle market. The V-Class will cater to the demand for high-roof, chauffeur-focused limousines designed to serve as private suites and mobile boardrooms. Initially launched in 2019 and discontinued in 2022 due to weak volumes, the V-Class is returning at a significantly higher price point, expected to be upwards of ₹1.5 crore.
The luxury MPV segment in India has transformed dramatically since 2019. It now spans a wide range from ₹60 lakh to over ₹2 crore, with vehicles like the Toyota Vellfire and Lexus LM establishing strong presences. Mercedes' decision to reintroduce the V-Class at a premium price reflects a strategic shift, positioning the MPV as a high-margin flagship aligned with its Maybach and S-Class offerings.
This strategy aligns with a broader trend in India's luxury vehicle market towards top-end models. Mercedes-Benz's own Top-End Vehicle segment saw a 34% growth in 2025. Industry data indicates a near quadrupling of vehicles priced above ₹60 lakh between 2020 and 2025, with luxury MPVs experiencing even faster fivefold growth, reflecting an emerging 'chauffeur-first' luxury economy.
Mercedes is positioning the V-Class as the 'Maybach of vans,' emphasizing rear-seat comfort with features like massage seats, ambient lighting, and digital displays. This approach aims to extend brand equity to existing S-Class and Maybach owners seeking enhanced space and privacy, capitalizing on current waiting periods for rival luxury MPVs.
