McDonald's Franchisees Undermine $3 Value Menu
3 Sep
Summary
- Only 60-65% of McDonald's locations executed the under $3 menu.
- McDonald's franchisees had unanimous approval to launch the menu.
- Digital offers were removed to make way for the failed promotion.

McDonald's recent initiative, the "McValue 2.0" or under $3 menu, has encountered significant execution challenges across its U.S. franchise system. While franchisees unanimously approved the launch in mid-April, the promotion has reportedly "not delivered against our expectation."
According to CEO Christopher Kempczinski, only about 60% to 65% of McDonald's restaurants are currently offering the recommended pricing architecture for the ten items priced under $3. This inconsistency in execution has disappointed customers.
Furthermore, the company unintentionally exacerbated the issue by withdrawing other digital offers. These offers are crucial for McDonald's loyalty program and valued by its most dedicated patrons, making their removal a detrimental trade-off for the struggling $3 menu.
