Maharashtra Aims for Global Medical Hub Status

Maharashtra is strategically positioning itself as a premier global destination for Medical Value Travel (MVT) under its forthcoming Medical Value Travel Policy 2025. This comprehensive policy, the first of its kind in India, aims to formalize and regulate the burgeoning medical tourism sector, with a strong emphasis on patient safety, ethical practices, and transparency. The state anticipates significant economic growth, projecting revenues of up to $3.84 billion by 2030, capitalizing on the expanding global MVT market.

The MVT Policy 2025 is designed to ensure a seamless experience for international patients by improving visa processes, offering multilingual support, and establishing a dedicated digital portal. Maharashtra intends to leverage its existing strengths, including advanced infrastructure, renowned medical professionals, and a tradition of integrative medicine. The policy also seeks to foster public-private partnerships and align with national initiatives to boost the sector.

Key medical specialties in Maharashtra include cardiac care, oncology, and orthopedics, with proposed medical value clusters in cities like Mumbai and Pune. The policy aims to enhance healthcare infrastructure, create high-value employment, and promote tier-2 cities as cost-effective, high-quality healthcare destinations. Maharashtra is also seeking to establish Medical Value Travel lounges at major airports to further facilitate foreign patient arrivals and promote the state globally.
