Macquarie India Head Departs After 8 Years
12 Jan
Summary
- Abhishek Poddar resigns as MD and Country Head of Macquarie India.
- He is currently on gardening leave, exiting by end of January.
- This follows another senior departure, Deep Gupta, in December.

Abhishek Poddar, the managing director and country head for India at Macquarie Asset Management, has resigned from his position after an eight-year career with the firm. He is currently on a period of gardening leave, with his official departure scheduled for the end of January. This transition signifies a notable leadership change within the Australian asset manager's India operations.
The departure of Poddar follows closely on the heels of another significant exit. In December, Deep Gupta, who served as managing director at Macquarie India, stepped down after nearly 18 years with the group. These recent senior-level departures indicate a period of significant leadership churn for Macquarie in India.
Poddar joined Macquarie in 2018, initially contributing to the asset management business before taking on the broader role of country head. During his tenure, he was instrumental in developing and expanding various investment platforms focused on infrastructure, renewable energy, and the broader energy transition ecosystem, including his involvement with platforms like Stride Climate Investments and Vibrant Energy.
