Lumen Technologies is embarking on a significant turnaround, with management setting a target for an adjusted EBITDA inflection in 2026. The company projects adjusted EBITDA to reach between $3.1 billion and $3.3 billion in 2026, underpinned by stringent cost controls and strategic portfolio adjustments.
Aggressive cost-saving measures are underway, with Lumen anticipating $1 billion in savings by the end of 2027 through infrastructure simplification. AI technology is being leveraged for enhanced intelligence and automation, contributing to an expected run-rate cost benefit of $700 million this year.
Simultaneously, Lumen is strategically shifting towards higher-margin growth areas, particularly capitalizing on the demand for low-latency fiber connectivity driven by AI workloads. This has resulted in securing $13 billion in Private Connectivity Fabric deals by the close of Q4 2025.
The company is also expanding its Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) business, which now serves over 2000 customers. Lumen foresees its adjusted EBITDA margins improving to approximately the mid-30% range by 2030, up from 27.1% in 2025.
Despite these advancements, Lumen faces persistent challenges, including maintaining cost-saving momentum, stabilizing revenues, and managing its substantial $13 billion debt. The transition to newer products will also contend with secular headwinds in the legacy business, with Business segment revenue expected to see structural decline until 2028.
