Lufthansa's 787 Business Class Finally Takes Flight
17 Feb
Summary
- Lufthansa will sell 25 business class seats on 787s by mid-April.
- Certification issues delayed the sale of most 787 business class seats.
- Allegris business class offers various seat configurations with fees.

Lufthansa will begin selling 25 business-class seats on its Boeing 787 Dreamliners by mid-April, ending a months-long certification delay. The complex Allegris business class, featuring five staggered seat configurations, faced regulatory hurdles due to evacuation requirements in the Dreamliner's unique geometry.
Previously, only four of the 28 seats could be sold, leaving 24 empty. This situation impacted Lufthansa's profitability, especially as it undergoes a multi-year turnaround plan. The airline aims to restore financial health after facing cost pressures and operational challenges.
Starting April 15, passengers can book 25 of the 28 available seats. While 'Classic' seats are complimentary, premium options like suites, privacy seats, extra space, and extra-long beds will incur additional fees. Lufthansa currently operates eight Allegris-equipped Dreamliners and anticipates having 29 by the end of 2027, with routes expanding globally.
