- Lucid targets $1.4 billion cash reduction by 2026.
- New midsize platform aims for under $50,000 Cosmos SUV.
- Saudi Arabia factory is key to securing government fleet orders.
Lucid is implementing a comprehensive restructuring plan, aiming for substantial cash savings. The company projects $1.4 billion in cost reductions by 2026, driven by inventory optimization, reduced capital expenditures, and operating expense cuts. This operational reset includes delaying the production of its new midsize platform. The first vehicle on this platform will be the Cosmos SUV, now expected in the second half of 2027, with a target price under $50,000 to significantly broaden Lucid's market.
The midsize platform is foundational for future models, including the adventure-oriented Earth, a third yet-to-be-named model, and the Lunar robotaxi concept. This platform utilizes a smaller battery and Lucid's new Atlas drive unit, designed to improve gross margins. Separately, Lucid is advancing its driverless technology, partnering to supply at least 25,000 autonomous vehicles for ride-hailing services and unveiling its Lunar robotaxi concept.
Lucid's factory in Saudi Arabia is also a critical component of its strategy. Transitioning to industrialization, this facility is prepared for production test runs and is supported by substantial government financing. It is expected to play a key role in fulfilling multiyear government fleet purchase orders and contributing to Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 for a local EV ecosystem.
