The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has confirmed potential malpractice in LPG cylinder bookings and refills, responding to numerous consumer complaints of unauthorized deliveries. Joint investigation teams from the central and state governments are actively conducting raids across the country to address these irregularities.
Enforcement actions have led to over 1.16 lakh raids being conducted to date. District Monitoring Committees are overseeing LPG distribution and addressing local anomalies. Consumers are cautioned against panic buying and urged to purchase LPG, petrol, and diesel only as per their needs.
India's energy sector is managing unprecedented demand, with approximately 25,000 LPG distributors operating daily. In recent weeks, 19.5 crore households have received LPG cylinders. Daily LPG production has been increased to 48,000 tonnes, with an additional 800 tonnes per day of C3 and C4 products allocated.
Demand for smaller 5-kg cylinders has surged, with over 1.06 lakh sold in a single day, significantly exceeding the February daily average. These smaller cylinders are crucial for students and laborers. Meanwhile, the pharmaceutical sector faces supply chain disruptions for key inputs, though customs duties on 40 pharma products have been reduced to zero.
