Lone Star Steakhouse: The Last One Stands in Guam
8 Feb
Summary
- Guam's Lone Star Steakhouse operates successfully, unlike its North American counterparts.
- The chain once boasted 267 restaurants but faced numerous closures due to poor management.
- This sole surviving location has been serving customers for 30 years.

The Lone Star Steakhouse chain, which once had 267 locations across North America, has seen its empire dwindle to a single operational restaurant. This last bastion of the once-popular steakhouse is located in Guam. The chain, founded in 1989 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, expanded rapidly but ultimately succumbed to financial mismanagement and intense competition.
Poor ownership decisions, including real estate sales and leasebacks, coupled with aggressive expansion prior to The Great Recession, led to declining sales. By 2019, all North American locations had shuttered. Despite this, the Guam Lone Star Steakhouse has been operating successfully for 30 years, maintaining the familiar steakhouse ambiance with happy hours and a dedicated following.
The Guam location continues to offer a classic steakhouse experience, featuring its version of the Bloomin' Onion, steaks, and burgers. Special holiday dinners are also a staple. This solitary survivor stands as a testament to resilience, a stark contrast to the chain's eventual collapse, which was marked by overnight closures and conflicting reports surrounding its final years.
