McDonald's Leicester Square Goes 24/7 Despite Police Objections
10 Aug
Summary
- London's busiest McDonald's branch has been granted 24/7 operation.
- The decision was made despite objections from the Metropolitan Police.
- New conditions include enhanced door staff and child safeguarding measures.

The largest McDonald's in London, located at Leicester Square, has been granted permission to operate 24/7. The restaurant, currently closed for just over two hours daily, will now remain open continuously after approval from Westminster Council.
This decision came despite objections from the Metropolitan Police, who argued the area is already saturated with late-night venues and that extended hours could raise crime levels. However, the council's licensing committee found no direct evidence linking McDonald's current hours to local crime.
To secure the 24/7 license, franchisee Capital Arches Group must adhere to strict conditions. These include employing at least one door staff member from 8 pm onwards, with two required on weekend nights from 10:30 pm to 5:30 am.
Additional safety measures encompass child safeguarding provisions and staff safety protocols. The restaurant must also implement a half-hourly litter pick around the premises and will not be allowed to offer deliveries between 11 pm and 8 am.
