26 Jul
Summary
- LMAX Group is evaluating strategic options, including a potential IPO.
- The company is also exploring a SPAC merger or sale valuing it up to $5 billion.
- Recent investment from Ripple aims to expand stablecoin adoption.

Institutional crypto trading platform LMAX Group is exploring options for a potential public debut. The company is collaborating with investment banks Morgan Stanley and Stifel Financial to assess strategic avenues, which include a possible initial public offering (IPO).
Further possibilities being considered by LMAX Group are a merger with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) or an outright sale. These transactions could potentially value the business at as much as $5 billion U.S. Reports suggest that a listing on the Nasdaq exchange is LMAX Group's favored direction.
This move comes while the cryptocurrency markets are experiencing a downturn, which may affect the timing of any public offering. LMAX Group, based in London, England, provides trading venues for foreign exchange and digital assets. It has experienced growth by positioning itself as a link between traditional finance and crypto markets.
In February of this year, LMAX unveiled a new 24/7 multi-asset exchange. This platform enables institutions to trade both tokenized and traditional assets continuously, broadening the company's business scope. Additionally, in January, LMAX secured a $150 million strategic investment from Ripple. This funding is intended to bolster the institutional adoption of Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin.
The company has also benefited from increased institutional involvement in cryptocurrency markets. This surge followed the approval of spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the U.S. Bitcoin was trading at $64,115 U.S. on July 24.
