Blackburn with Darwen and Blackpool will also receive significant portions of this grant, totaling £2.5 million and £870,000 respectively.
The funds, part of the government's Active Travel initiative, will be invested in creating new footpaths and cycle tracks. National Active Travel Commissioner Chris Boardman highlighted the program's aim to create communities where people, including children and older adults, can travel independently and safely. Transport Minister Lilian Greenwood emphasized that this support helps councils promote greener transport choices, leading to healthier and safer environments.
