e-KYC Chaos: Helpline Fails Beneficiaries Seeking Aid
25 Jan
Summary
- Helpline ineffective; beneficiaries want portal reopened for corrections.
- Double negative in Marathi form misclassified 24 lakh women.
- Anganwadi workers tasked with physical verification of affected applicants.

A helpline established by the state government to address e-KYC issues for the Ladki Bahin scheme has been met with widespread dissatisfaction. Beneficiaries in Pune and other areas report the helpline, number 181, is either not operational or fails to provide effective solutions. Their primary demand remains the reopening of the e-KYC portal to allow corrections in submitted applications.
The core problem stems from a poorly phrased question in the Marathi e-KYC form. The double-negative query, "Tumchya gharatle koni sarkari nokrit nahi na?", confused respondents into incorrectly marking themselves as belonging to government employee families. This error affected approximately 24 lakh beneficiaries, leading to the suspension of their monthly Rs 1,500 financial assistance.
