Lackawanna County has received a significant financial boost with $11.6 million in Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grants distributed across 13 projects. These funds, announced recently, are designated for initiatives that will stimulate economic development and enhance community services.
The awarded projects span a wide range of needs, including the construction of a new mixed-use residential building in Dunmore and the expansion of healthcare services at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. Other allocations will support the development of a community center in Blakely Borough, a technology incubator in Carbondale, and upgrades to educational facilities at Marywood University.
Additional funding will facilitate the redevelopment of logistics sites, enhance addiction treatment services, modernize childcare centers, and renovate a minor league baseball stadium. These RACP grants, administered by the Governor's Office of the Budget, are designed to support projects with regional impact, aiming to create jobs, improve infrastructure, and drive long-term economic growth.
Statewide, $445 million was distributed to 356 projects, with Northeast Pennsylvania receiving $52.6 million for 42 projects, underscoring the significant investment in the region.
