KTM 390 Duke Price Soars: New GST Hits Riders Hard
7 Apr
Summary
- KTM 390 Duke price increased by Rs 40,000 to Rs 3.39 lakh.
- Higher 40% GST on bikes over 350cc impacts pricing.
- A new sub-350cc Duke is planned as a more affordable option.

The KTM 390 Duke has experienced a substantial price revision, with its ex-showroom cost climbing by Rs 40,000 to Rs 3.39 lakh. This upward adjustment is a direct consequence of the 40 percent Goods and Services Tax (GST) imposed on motorcycles exceeding 350cc, which was implemented last year. Initially, Bajaj Auto absorbed this additional tax burden, but has now passed the increased costs onto consumers.
The elevated pricing means the on-road cost for the 390 Duke in major cities like Delhi now surpasses Rs 4 lakh, making ownership considerably more expensive. This price hike is anticipated to eventually extend to other models within the 390 range, including the RC 390, though official confirmation is pending.
Interestingly, this strategic pricing move might pave the way for a new sub-350cc Duke. This upcoming model would fall under a lower 18 percent GST bracket, offering a more affordable alternative within the Duke lineup. However, it is expected to deliver reduced performance compared to the current 399cc engine.
