Krafton Settles Subnautica 2 Leadership Dispute
1 Jul
Summary
- Unknown Worlds staff will receive bonuses, paid in three annual installments.
- Subnautica 2 sold over 4 million copies in early access, triggering bonus payouts.
- Ted Gill returns as CEO of Unknown Worlds following the settlement.

The legal conflict between Krafton and the leadership of Unknown Worlds Entertainment, the developer behind Subnautica 2, has concluded with a mutual settlement.
As part of the agreement, all staffers at Unknown Worlds will receive bonus payments. Ted Gill has also resumed his role as CEO of Unknown Worlds, a position from which he was ousted last summer. This resolution follows a lawsuit filed by Gill and co-founders Charlie Cleveland and Max McGuire, who accused Krafton of wrongful termination and delaying Subnautica 2.
The early access version of the co-op survival game Subnautica 2, released in May, has achieved significant success by selling over 4 million copies. This sales milestone has activated the bonus payout clause stipulated in the 2021 acquisition agreement.
According to Ted Gill, the development team will be compensated substantially more than initially agreed upon, with potential for further incentives tied to Subnautica 2's future performance. Krafton has affirmed its commitment to supporting the game's journey to its full 1.0 release and its player community.
