- It aims to disrupt existing service lines with new ventures.

KPMG LLP has established a new Client Technology & Innovation (CT&I) group, effective September 22, 2026. This unit is designed to launch AI-native businesses with the speed of a startup. Todd Lohr, a long-time KPMG veteran, will lead CT&I, reporting directly to CEO Tim Walsh. This structural change elevates AI and innovation strategy to the highest level of the firm.
The CT&I group will focus on product strategy, commercial infrastructure, firmwide AI and data strategy, and innovation incubation. It functions as an internal venture studio, aiming to develop disruptive ventures with multiple exit paths, including spin-offs or joint ventures. Lohr, drawing inspiration from Silicon Valley incubators, hopes to foster billion-dollar companies from these internal initiatives.
This strategic shift follows recent challenges with AI-generated content within the industry, including a widely reported incident involving a KPMG International report. In response, KPMG has launched an AI tool named Hawk to detect hallucinations in its content. Lohr emphasized that while AI is powerful, it carries an "awesome responsibility" for all employees to ensure the integrity of their work.
