Demolition has commenced on the former Kmart property in Kissimmee, marking the beginning of a significant redevelopment effort for the long-vacant 22-acre site on Vine Street. This ambitious project aims to revitalize the area by introducing approximately 630 new apartment units and various commercial businesses. A key feature of the redevelopment is the inclusion of a 70,000-square-foot indoor sports facility, addressing a noted community need for recreational spaces.
City officials view this project as a catalyst for future investment and a crucial step in transforming the Vine Street corridor into a more dynamic and walkable community. Plans also incorporate green spaces designed for community activities like farmers markets and movie nights. While demolition is expected to conclude within a couple of months, the entire redevelopment process is projected to span five years, with the Master Development Agreement currently under negotiation.
