India Welcomes Kia Sorento: Flagship Hybrid SUV

Kia India has initiated pre-bookings for its globally recognized flagship SUV, the Sorento, which is slated to enter the Indian market soon as the brand's first hybrid offering. This announcement was made on Monday, August 3rd.

The Sorento, described as an SUV designed to redefine sophistication and innovation, is available for pre-booking online and through dealerships. The launch is anticipated in the latter half of 2026.

Internationally, the Sorento is Kia's established midsize three-row SUV. In India, it will be positioned above the Seltos, serving as Kia's premier ICE and hybrid vehicle, complementing models like the Carnival and EV9.

While detailed India-specific features are pending, the Sorento is expected to be around 4,815 mm long, offering six- and seven-seat layouts. Anticipated interior features include dual 12.3-inch displays, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, and Level 2 ADAS. The powertrain is likely a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong-hybrid system producing approximately 238 hp, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Customers can pre-book the Sorento by visiting the official Kia India website or their nearest authorized dealership. Unofficial dealer bookings reportedly began in July with token amounts around INR 25,000.

The Sorento was first spotted testing on Indian roads in late 2025. It is expected to compete with premium three-row SUVs such as the Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tayron. Its hybrid powertrain is seen as a significant differentiator in a segment that has traditionally favored diesel engines.
