Kia is entering India's factory-fitted CNG passenger vehicle market with the upcoming Carens and Carens Clavis CNG models. These MPVs will utilize a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, modified to run on CNG, delivering 96hp and 123Nm of torque. The vehicles feature a 60-litre CNG tank integrated under the boot floor, resulting in a reduced luggage capacity of 116 litres, down from 216 litres in the petrol variants. To manage the increased weight, Kia has made chassis modifications, including retuned suspension and upgraded front disc brakes. The Carens Clavis CNG will be offered in HTE and HTE (O) variants, while the Carens CNG will exclusively feature the Premium trim. This move signifies Kia's first passenger vehicle in India with a factory-fitted CNG system, entering a market already featuring offerings from Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, and Hyundai, driven by demand for lower running costs.
