When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, the company's primary focus, as stated by Cole, was to ensure the safety of its employees and customers while preserving cash. The pandemic presented varied challenges, with mall-based brands like Auntie Anne's being particularly affected by closures, while brands with drive-thrus, such as Schlotzsky's, experienced an advantage.
