Karnataka Powers Up: Green Energy Surge to 66 GW by 2030

Karnataka is set to nearly double its installed power capacity, targeting 66 GW by 2030 from the current over 39 GW. This significant expansion will be overwhelmingly focused on clean energy sources, as announced by the Energy Department on September 3, 2026. The state anticipates electricity demand will double within the next decade, fueled by industrial expansion, widespread electric vehicle adoption, and the growth of large data centers.

To meet this projected demand, Karnataka is advancing crucial projects like the Sharavathi Pumped Storage Project and deploying large-scale battery energy storage systems. The state is also scaling up solar and wind power generation and promoting solarization of agricultural feeders. Karnataka is actively encouraging private investment, expecting Rs two lakh crore to Rs three lakh crore over the next four to five years, particularly in energy storage and transmission infrastructure.

Furthermore, Karnataka is pursuing global partnerships in battery storage, green hydrogen, and smart-grid automation, emphasizing digitalization as a key driver for renewable energy's future growth. The state is streamlining regulations and processes to create a transparent and investor-friendly ecosystem for renewable energy projects.
