Karnataka has achieved a significant milestone, ranking third nationally in the NITI Aayog's India Electric Mobility Index (IEMI) 2025. The state garnered a total score of 73, positioning it as a top performer in electric vehicle adoption and infrastructure development. Delhi secured the top spot with 84 points, followed by Maharashtra at 78.
Demonstrating exceptional progress, Karnataka achieved a perfect score of 97 in Charging Infrastructure Readiness, the highest among all states. This reflects the state's robust network of 6,979 charging stations, with Bengaluru alone housing 4,896.
Karnataka's proactive approach includes initiatives like the BESCOM EV Mithra app, a single-window clearance system, and an EV Accelerator Cell. The state was also the first to introduce a dedicated EV policy in 2017. As of the first five months of FY27, Karnataka's EV penetration approached 15%, with cumulative EV sales ranking third nationally.
