A proposed 1.43 km ropeway project aims to enhance accessibility to the Maa Kamakhya Temple in Assam by connecting it directly to Kamakhya Railroad Station. The initiative, with an estimated cost of Rs 201.52 crore including GST, is being managed by National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML).
The project will operate on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate & Transfer (DBFOT) model, requiring private developers to manage all phases. Tenders were available from October 21, 2026, with proposals due by December 8, 2026. This new transit system is anticipated to reduce travel time significantly and offer a more convenient alternative for thousands of daily pilgrims.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari previously highlighted the project's potential to cut travel time from 20 to 6 minutes and accommodate over 16,500 passengers daily. He emphasized the project's alignment with the 'VikasBhiVirasatBhi' spirit, integrating development with cultural preservation.
