Jubilant FoodWorks has reported its Q1 FY2027 earnings, revealing robust performance from Popeyes and challenges for Domino's.
Popeyes emerged as a strong growth engine, achieving an impressive 45% like-for-like (LFL) growth. This surge is attributed to superior product quality, effective brand building through flavor innovation, and strong store execution. The company remains confident in Popeyes' sustained growth trajectory, aiming to surpass market leaders.
In contrast, Domino's registered a more modest 2.5% LFL growth during the same period. This was influenced by a high comparative base from the previous year and cost pressures from LPG, labor, and commodity inflation. Channels catering to solo occasions under INR250 experienced the most significant downturn.
Despite these challenges, overall gross margins held steady at 75.5%. This resilience is credited to effective pricing strategies and supply chain efficiencies. The company is also on track to meet its EBITDA margin expansion targets, with emerging brands performing ahead of schedule. Free cash flow has turned positive, with expectations of further improvement.
However, headwinds persist, including volatile commodity costs and increased delivery expenses due to a reduced minimum order value. Popeyes, while growing rapidly, is not yet EBITDA profitable, requiring further scaling and management of marketing expenditures to reach profitability.
