16 Sep
Summary
- JCB India plans to double production to 170,000 machines by 2030.
- Industry growth is now projected between 9-12% this financial year.
- JCB India is increasing localization to reduce import costs.
JCB India is planning a significant expansion, aiming to double its manufacturing capacity to around 170,000 construction equipment machines each year by 2030. This ambitious growth strategy is fueled by the expectation of sustained domestic demand from ongoing infrastructure projects and increasing opportunities in global markets.
The company's outlook aligns with a positive industry forecast, with the construction equipment sector projected to expand between 9% and 12% in the current financial year. JCB India anticipates its own growth to exceed this average by one to two percentage points.
Government investments in roads, railways, ports, and rural infrastructure are key drivers for this demand. JCB is also exploring product adaptations, such as developing attachments for existing machinery to enable work on railway tracks, enhancing their multi-purpose utility.
Simultaneously, JCB India is intensifying its localization efforts. For instance, backhoe loaders already feature about 96% local components, while excavators are between 65% and 75% localized. This strategy aims to mitigate the impact of imported component costs and logistics expenses. Despite input cost pressures, JCB has implemented modest price increases of 3-4% cumulatively over the past year, absorbing some costs through localization and efficiency gains.
JCB India's operations are increasingly integrated into the company's global supply chain. The country exports finished machines, engines, transmissions, and components to other JCB facilities worldwide. Despite global supply chain challenges like those in the Red Sea, which have extended transit times, JCB is optimistic about future growth.
