Japan's India Investment Surges Past ₹2.7 Lakh Crore

Japanese foreign direct investment in India has now reached over ₹2.7 lakh crore, with approximately 1,400 Japanese companies establishing operations in the country. This signifies a deepening economic partnership between the two nations.

Japan has significantly contributed to India's infrastructure development, supporting metro systems and high-speed rail projects. Furthermore, through specialized manufacturing programs, Japan has aided in training around 24,000 young Indian individuals over the past seven years.

The bilateral economic relationship is advancing into a new phase, guided by a jointly developed action plan. This framework aims to enhance economic security and broaden collaboration by analyzing the strengths and vulnerabilities of both countries.

Both nations are encouraged to increase joint investments in crucial sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, solar energy, and battery technologies. India's established global presence in IT, engineering, and R&D is seen as a strong complement to Japan's technological capabilities, promising significant value creation.

India is evolving for Japanese firms beyond just a cost-effective location, becoming a strategic partner in innovation and value creation. To ensure this cooperation remains sustainable, both countries must prioritize intellectual property protection and prevent technology leakage.

Recent agreements, including over 170 MoUs signed in August of last year, cover diverse fields like semiconductors, AI, and healthcare, indicating a robust expansion of the partnership. The immediate future involves translating these agreements into tangible collaborations within advanced industries.
