29 Mar
Summary
- Janus Henderson subsidiary allegedly acted like 'mafia gangster'.
- Claim of 'unjust enrichment' seeks hundreds of millions of pounds.
- Court rejected bid to dismiss case, citing malicious conduct.

Janus Henderson, a major UK money manager, is entangled in a significant US court battle. The firm's subsidiary, Victory Park Capital, faces allegations of employing 'mafia gangster' tactics to acquire rival Calumet. Calumet claims Victory Park 'starved' it of investment and used inside information to facilitate a 'predatory lowball offer'.
Although Janus Henderson acquired Victory Park in 2024, it is now implicated in the lawsuit. Calumet asserts the parent company was 'unjustly enriched' by revenues that should have belonged to its business. The Delaware Court of Chancery dismissed Victory Park's attempt to have the claim thrown out, noting that contractual discretion does not excuse malicious conduct.
A Janus Henderson spokesperson stated the company believes the suit lacks merit and will vigorously defend its position. Calumet has declined to comment on the ongoing dispute.
