Jajpur's Gopalpur village is poised to become a major textile hub with the upcoming establishment of a new textile park. State finance secretary Sanjeeb Kumar Mishra announced this initiative, emphasizing its potential to create hundreds of jobs and boost economic opportunities for local weavers.
The project aligns with the state government's vision for cluster-based development, aiming to enhance weaver productivity and profitability. The park will feature essential infrastructure such as a common facility center, reeling and training centers, and a selling point near the national highway, all designed to promote Gopalpur's renowned silk items.
This development builds upon the existing recognition of Gopalpur tussar, which received a Geographical Indication (GI) tag in 2009. Initiatives like the Mukhyamantri Bayan Jyoti Yojana scheme have already provided support to around 2,000 weavers, equipping them with essential tools like inverters and lighting, underscoring the commitment to leveraging the region's skilled artistry.
