Investor Sentiment Soars, But Market Top Not Yet Here
16 Jun
Summary
- Investor sentiment nears peak, but BofA's indicator suggests no major market top.
- Global growth and profit expectations reach three-month highs.
- Fund managers see rising likelihood of Federal Reserve rate hikes.

Investor sentiment has surged to near-peak levels, yet Bank of America's latest Global Fund Manager Survey indicates that this optimism has not yet reached the threshold for a significant market top. Strategists noted that while a technical 'sell signal' was triggered, cash levels saw a slight increase, suggesting caution.
Global growth and profit expectations are currently at three-month highs. Concurrently, expectations for higher interest rates have reached their highest point since September 2022, with a notable increase in fund managers forecasting Federal Reserve rate hikes in the coming year.
In terms of positioning, managers have trimmed equity and technology exposure, with Europe now at its largest underweight since December 2024. Conversely, there has been an addition to Japanese, materials, and bank holdings. "Second wave inflation" and an "AI bubble" were identified as the primary tail risks.
The most crowded trade, according to 80% of respondents, is a long position in global semiconductors, marking an all-time high in the survey's history. Looking ahead, long bonds, Europe, and consumer stocks were highlighted as potential contrarian plays for the summer.
