Indore Gets New Rail-Linked Container Hub

Gateway Distriparks Limited is set to develop a significant inland container depot in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, with an investment of ₹150 crore. This new facility, situated on approximately 25 acres, will feature two rail sidings and is designed to handle an estimated 1,20,000 TEUs each year. This venture represents Gateway Distriparks' first expansion into Central India, a rapidly growing industrial hub.

The upcoming depot has secured in-principle approval from Indian Railways. It will offer integrated logistics services, including rail transport for both export-import and domestic containers, container handling, bonded warehousing, and last-mile road distribution. The strategic location near the Pithampur Industrial Area is expected to benefit from the new Indore-Dahod rail line, reducing transit times to JNPT and encouraging a shift from road to rail for containerized cargo.

This new hub aims to serve a broad industrial catchment in the region, including Pithampur, Dewas, and Ujjain, facilitating the movement of diverse cargo like auto components, pharmaceuticals, and textiles. Chairman and Managing Director Prem Kishan Dass Gupta highlighted that the Indore ICD will strengthen both EXIM and domestic container logistics, offering cost-efficient solutions to manufacturers and shippers across India.
