- It aims to restructure state-owned enterprises and invest abroad.
- Danantara seeks international deals that benefit Indonesia economically.

Indonesia's Danantara, a sovereign wealth fund established in 2025, now holds approximately $1 trillion in assets. Chief Investment Officer Pandu Sjahrir described its rapid growth as a compressed "walk, run, sprint" trajectory, aiming to learn from and avoid mistakes made by older investment vehicles. Danantara's mandate involves restructuring over 1,000 state-owned enterprises, many currently unprofitable, into entities capable of paying dividends and eventual public offerings.
Beyond domestic restructuring, Danantara is tasked with making international investments that yield economic advantages for Indonesia, including job creation and export-oriented industries. A recent agreement exemplifies this strategy, with Danantara acquiring a stake in JBS's Australian meat business in exchange for JBS's assistance in developing Indonesia's own meat industry. The fund is actively seeking expertise, engaging Neuberger Berman for deal selection and preparing to allocate capital to hedge funds later this year.
Danantara is also facilitating executive secondments with Wall Street firms to gain international experience. Sjahrir emphasizes a focus on deploying capital effectively, achieving good returns, and ensuring partners bring value to Indonesia. The fund seeks to shift perceptions by demonstrating successful capital deployment and mutual benefit in its global financial endeavors.
