The creator economy in India is far from reaching its peak, according to Gunjan Soni, Country Managing Director of YouTube India. Her insights were shared following the release of YouTube's India Impact Report, which highlights substantial economic contributions.
The report reveals that YouTube's creator ecosystem has injected ₹18,000 crore into the Indian economy and has been instrumental in supporting 9.6 lakh jobs. Notably, approximately 2 lakh creators experienced their first earnings last year, while the number of channels achieving seven-figure revenues saw a growth exceeding 20%.
Future expansion is projected to originate from tier 2 and tier 3 cities. Furthermore, creators are increasingly transforming into comprehensive media studios and networks, and Indian content is gaining significant traction globally, with about 15% of viewership now coming from outside India.
Soni advises creators to prioritize building communities over accumulating followers. She emphasizes that success stems from purpose, consistency, and authenticity, rather than a singular formula.
