95% Skilled, 75% Burned: India's Worker Paradox
22 Jan
Summary
- India tops global talent rankings with 77% score.
- 95% Indian workers are confident in their skills.
- Despite confidence, 75% report burnout due to workload.

India's workforce has once again secured the top position in the Global Talent Barometer 2026, achieving a composite score of 77%. This reflects a high level of confidence among Indian employees, with 95% expressing strong faith in their skill sets.
Despite this confidence, the report highlights significant stress and burnout. Three in four workers are experiencing burnout, largely attributed to demanding workloads and extended working hours. Only 38% of respondents reported satisfaction with their current roles, a concern for employers seeking to retain talent.
Furthermore, 62% of workers fear automation could render their jobs obsolete within two years. This apprehension contributes to a trend dubbed "job hugging," where employees actively seek new opportunities while remaining in their current roles due to job security concerns.
ManpowerGroup India advises employers to focus on visible career paths, trust, and employee well-being to foster engagement and productivity. Addressing burnout, managing cautious job stability, and upskilling employees, particularly in AI, are crucial for retaining India's resilient yet restless talent pool.
