India's services exports have experienced substantial growth, reaching $421.3 billion in FY2025-26. This figure represents a significant increase from $254.5 billion in FY2021-22, marking a 65.5% rise over four years. The expansion has brought services exports nearly on par with merchandise exports, which stood at $441.8 billion in the same fiscal year.
The primary catalyst for this surge has been the telecommunications, computer, and information services sector. Exports from this segment climbed to $206.6 billion in FY2025-26, constituting nearly half of all services exports. Business services contributed an additional $124.2 billion, collectively making up about 80% of the total.
Government initiatives, including the negotiation of trade agreements with provisions for cross-border services and digital delivery, have been crucial. Agreements facilitating mutual recognition of professional qualifications and addressing double taxation have further supported Indian service providers in accessing global markets.
Despite the rise in services, merchandise exports also achieved a record $441.8 billion in FY2025-26, with engineering goods leading the way. This demonstrates a diversified export model for India, capable of leveraging both digital services and manufactured goods.
