India's Chip Dream: Beyond Fabs, Towards Components
26 Sep
Summary
- India's semiconductor mission now targets chip design and advanced packaging.
- Two companies, Ratnaveer and INDO-MIM, are boosting local component supply.
- Ratnaveer aims to replace over 90% of imported copper-clad laminates.
India's ambitious semiconductor mission is evolving beyond chip fabrication, with the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) 2.0 focusing on chip design and advanced packaging. This strategic shift also encompasses the domestic manufacturing of essential inputs like chemicals and equipment.
The opportunity extends to critical components, with over 90% of India's copper-clad laminate demand currently imported. Ratnaveer Precision Engineering is establishing India's first integrated FR-4 Copper-Clad Laminate (CCL) facility, targeting commercial production by November 2026.
Meanwhile, INDO-MIM, a global precision engineering firm, is expanding its capabilities in areas like Metal Injection Molding and 3D printing. The company supplies essential hardware components for semiconductor devices and the broader electronics ecosystem.
Both companies are poised to benefit from India's growing electronics and semiconductor manufacturing sector, reducing import reliance and enhancing the domestic supply chain. Ratnaveer aims for ₹750 crore revenue from its CCL business, while INDO-MIM targets sustained growth through diversification.
