- Monetization aims to fund future infrastructure development and modernization.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is poised to monetize 1,692.5 km of national highway stretches across nine states in FY27. This initiative is a key component of the government's broader asset monetization strategy, aiming to generate significant capital for infrastructure development.
NHAI has identified these highway sections in Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Maharashtra. These assets are strategically chosen for their role in key economic and logistics corridors, boasting established traffic potential and strong connectivity.
This exercise will utilize the Toll-Operate-Transfer (TOT) and Infrastructure Investment Trust (InvIT) frameworks to attract long-term institutional investment. The goal is to unlock value from operational national highway assets, thereby mobilizing capital for further infrastructure development and accelerating the expansion and modernization of the highway network. The government raised about ₹29,000 crore in FY26 and is targeting ₹35,000 crore in FY27.
