28 Aug
Summary
- Forex reserves surged over $12 billion to reach $729.328 billion.
- Foreign currency assets and gold reserves drove the significant increase.
- These reserves strengthen India against global financial shocks.

India's foreign exchange reserves have reached an all-time high, surging by $12.422 billion to an unprecedented $729.328 billion for the week ended August 21. This substantial increase in external reserves was largely propelled by a significant rise in foreign currency assets, which climbed by $9.482 billion.
Gold reserves also played a crucial role in this upward trend, growing by $2.801 billion. Other components like special drawing rights and India's reserve position in the IMF also saw modest increases. These bolstered reserves, now exceeding previous end-March and year-earlier figures, significantly enhance India's capacity to withstand global financial and economic turbulence.
